Materials we use

Materials That Earn Their Place

At Modrean, we don’t start with a parts list—we start with a simple question: is this good enough to live on someone’s wrist every day? Every component we use has been tested for how it looks, how it wears, and how it holds up over time. If it doesn’t meet that standard, it doesn’t make it into our builds.

Every watch is checked in hand, on the wrist, and under close inspection—because it has to be something we’d wear ourselves. 🔍⌚

Stainless steel that holds up 🛠️

The foundation of every Modrean build is solid 316L stainless steel. It’s chosen for a reason—it handles daily wear, moisture, and knocks without losing its structure or finish.

We use it because it strikes the right balance: strong enough to last, resistant enough to stay clean, and refined enough to still feel premium on the wrist. Whether it’s brushed, polished, or somewhere in between, it’s built to look just as good years down the track.

Sapphire crystal that stays clear 💎

The crystal takes the most abuse, so we spec sapphire across Modrean builds. It’s one of the hardest materials used in watchmaking, meaning it resists scratches that would quickly ruin standard glass.

With added anti-reflective coating, it’s not just durable—it’s practical. You get a clear, sharp view of the dial in real-world lighting, not just perfect conditions.

Coatings that last, not fade 🎨

When a design calls for black, gold, or darker finishes, we use PVD coating instead of basic plating. It bonds at a deeper level, creating a tougher surface that resists wear, fading, and corrosion.

We’re strict about finishes—if a coating doesn’t hold up after real use, it doesn’t get used again. The goal is simple: a watch that still looks sharp long after the first wear.

Movements chosen for reliability ⚙️

Inside the case, we rely on proven Seiko NH series automatic movements across many Modrean builds. They’re widely respected for their durability, accuracy, and ease of servicing—exactly what you want in a mechanical watch you can depend on.

Each movement features:

  • Smooth automatic operation with 24 jewels
  • Hacking and manual winding for precise setting
  • A steady 21,600 beats per hour sweep
  • Around 41 hours of power reserve

Before assembly, every movement is checked and regulated to ensure it performs to a standard we’re comfortable putting our name behind.

Built with intent 🔧

Every Modrean watch brings together genuine O.E.M movements and carefully selected aftermarket components—chosen for performance, durability, and design, not convenience.

Because we build in smaller runs, we’re always refining what we use. New materials get tested, new finishes get trialed—but only the ones that prove themselves stick around.

If it’s on a Modrean watch, it earned its place there.
